The Contemporary Music Workshop ensemble is a highly versatile instrumental and vocal group that, since its inception, has fostered musical creation by premiering works by established composers as well as emerging artists. It has participated as the resident ensemble since the first edition of the Festival, performing works by the invited composers.
In 2004, the ensemble recorded the CD "Chamber Works," featuring pieces composed specifically for them, including works by Chilean composers Rafael Díaz, Cirilo Vila, Francisco Silva, Daniel Osorio, Antonio Carvallo, Alejandro Guarello, and Pablo Aranda. That same year, they participated in the CD "Nine Chamber Compositions" by composer Pablo Aranda. In 2005, they recorded the CD "Iaux-Aux / Káitek," a collection of works by composers Daniel Osorio and Antonio Carvallo.
In February 2008, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Directorate of Cultural Affairs, DIRAC), he toured Germany, performing in the cities of Ravensburg (Ars Nova Festival), Munich (Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste), Cologne (Alte Feuerwache) and Oldenburg (Oldenburger Schloss, tribute to the master Gustavo Becerra Schmidt).
In November 2012, he was invited to participate in the PUENTES 2012 Festival in Mexico City, organized by composer Marcela Rodríguez, where he performed a concert and participated in a roundtable discussion and lectures. On this occasion, he received support from the National Music Development Fund through its Open Call program.
In September 2017, with the support of DIRAC, he undertook a concert tour of Austria, France, Italy, and Slovakia, organized in conjunction with the International Society of Chilean Musicians (SIMUC). On this occasion, he also received support from the National Music Development Fund through the Open Call program.
During its 22-year history, the Contemporary Music Workshop has performed on numerous occasions at the Contemporary Music Festivals of the Catholic University, the University of Chile, the Inacap Technological University, the Músicahora Festival in La Serena, as well as in the cities of Valparaíso, Valdivia and Temuco.
Its Director is the composer and academic Pablo Aranda.
